Speaker 1:

Global Pandemic Impact On Mental Health. Welcome back to another Prepare with ICEBUDDY podcast. I'm your host, Pamela Norris. Since the global pandemic, mental health has become a serious issue in society. Isolation restrictions caused by the lockdowns caused the human thought process to change. Most people do not appreciate that we all suffer from mental health issues at some time in our lives. Those issues may last a day, month, or years. They may be minor or severe. The fact of the matter is that we need to become aware when our emotional health is negatively impacted. We also need to be less judgemental when witnessing someone suffering. Instead, as a society, we must ensure that support services are available for all of us. The underlying causes of our mental health issues are too numerous to mention, but here are a few of life stressors that negatively impact our emotional state of being. Isolation, depression, loneliness, seasonal affective disorder, persistent stress, post-traumatic stress, economic despair, pervasive sadness due to recurring loss of loved ones, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, anxiety caused by obsessive thoughts or fears and deterioration of physical health. When someone is suffering from mental health distress, depending on the nature and severity of their issue, the support they may need can vary from time alone to process what they are feeling to needing a friend confident to listen, attend individual or group therapy, receive medication from a psychiatrist or enroll in a residential treatment program. You may be interested in knowing that residential treatment programs come in various forms and perform different therapeutic functions. A few of these programs are assisted living facilities, psychiatric hospitals, clinical residential treatment programs, group residential communities, farm-based and work-based residential programs, apartment based communities, nursing homes, and licensed care homes. As the former Clinical Director of a large metropolitan mental health center in Maryland, I know the need for the various facilities treating mental health clients to have the means for keeping refrigerated drug supplies kept at the proper temperature. This is why I designed the ICEBUDDY System. The ICEBUDDY QOOLER component keeps medications requiring refrigeration cold for three days without electricity, buying critical time for power to be restored.
